New Materials
New materials have specific capacities that did not exist in this structure and composition so far. The production is often only possible with the ongoing development of production methods. Some new materials are extremely light and also hard-wearing as steel. Materials research and the corresponding process technology are cross-section technologies of the future. New materials produce new industrial products that are more environmental friendly and energy saving.
The efficiency of new materials will be assessed not only in functionality and costs, but increasingly in environmental compatibility. Researches are conducted on classical materials such as metal, synthetics or glass, but also in semiconductors or composite material. This development applies to an innovation motor for domains as e.g. material techniques, chemical analysis, and surface and production technology.
Chemistry
The chemical industry is an important branch of the economy. Manufacturing basic chemicals on the one hand, it produces on the other hand many complex substances, tailor-made for special application areas. Without industrial produced chemicals the manufacturing of computers or of fuels and lubricants for the automotive industry and many other technical products would be impossible.
Progress in the various sectors of chemistry often is the unavoidable condition for new expertise in other sectors, particularly in biology and medicine and in physics and engineering. It also often comes along with a reduction of production costs for many industrial products.
