Transportation and Mobility

Mobility and transportation are attributes of a modern society and of economical prosperity. Land-bound and water-bound services establish a central precondition (e.g. logistics).

Transportation

Since industrialisation, the development of transportation has been closely connected with new technologies and will depend on it further. Whereas in modern highspeed-traffic, and in the automotive economy in particular, the question of replacement of fossil fuels with another drive technology will be crucial.

Innovations in automotive lightweight construction contribute to the lowering of energy consumption and emissons. The further development in the field of driving systems by German engineers also affects the protection of resources. Particularly the networks of competences are contributing to the bundling of innovative know-how. They design and develop new technologies and have a share in the profile of German protagonists in these fields of research.

Mobility

Mobility is an important element of economical growth and employment. Solutions for transport performance, networked regional and international, will become a key of development for economy and society in coming years. In the future, mobility will not efficiently be made by a single carrier or a certain technology, the focus will be on a network of various carriers to increase the efficiency of the complete system.

Traffic engineering in Germany is affected by the combination of all subsectors and technology fields, the wide research environment and the close connection with users and carriers. The multi-disciplinary  network of science and economy offers high potentials to secure mobility, economically and ecologically.
