Micro-Nano-Opto

In recent years the micro, nano and optical technologies have created completely new products and branches. New concepts of systems enable a further great advance in the quality of functions and a continuous dropping of prices and scales.

Microsystems

Microsystems combine methods of microelectronics, micromechanics, microfluidics and microoptics , completed by informatics, biotechnology and nanotechnology, while it joins developments and structures of those fields to new systems. In the automobile e.g. the part of electronic and microsystems amounts to over 30 % of the aggregate value. In medical technology minimal invasive therapies, intelligent implants or new diagnostics provide new possibilities.

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology aims at the creation and treatment of components down to the dimension of molecules. It enables the realisation of completely new attributes or capacities of the components. Next to the use at the material science and to the functionalisation of surfaces the nanoelectronics have to be accented: structural widths of a mere 10 nm and thicknesses of individual atomical layers form the basis for the latest new generation of processors and accumulators at microelectronics.

Optical Technologies

Optical technology is a key technology for many categories of German core competences: machine construction, microelectronics, medical techniques, illumination industry. In laser for material treatment or measurement, in high-precision optics for sub-µm lithography, in endoscopic surgery and in highly effective light sources or luminiscent polymers Germany has become a global market leader in optical technologies.

In these three groups, an intensive network of resources is required to implement the achieved results continuously.
