SSETI launches European student microsatellite

The Student Space Exploration & Technology Initiative (SSETI) has launched the first pan-European student microsatellite, SSETI Express, from Plesetsk, Russia, on October 27th, 2005.

Only one and a half hours later the satellite already sent the first signals back to earth. Students from twelve different European countries and 23 different European universities have participated in the project, among them 15 students from Stuttgart university. SSETI Express is to carry and subsequently deploy three pico-satellites, take photographs of our planet, and function as a relais for radio amateurs.
