Joint bid wins Galileo concession contract
The winning proposal merging the two initial competitors, Eurely and iNavSat, is expected to bring higher commercial revenues thanks to a concentration of the know-how of the two bidders.
The Galileo Joint Undertaking (GJU) chose, on 27 June 2005, the joint bid of Eurely and iNavSat as the Galileo concession holder. The two consortia joined forces in May 2005 after the GJU expressed difficulties in making a choice.
According to the GJU, the evaluation of the joint bid, tabled on 20 June 2005, "showed a significant reduction in the financial contribution from the public sector and an increase in the foreseen commercial revenue".
The Eurely/iNavSat consortia will be responsible for managing the deployment (2006-2007) and the operational phase (from 2008 onwards) of Galileo in compliance with contractual terms to be established before the end of 2005. The private sector consortia will be overseen by a public body, the Galileo Supervisory Authority.
