Gateways to Europe: German universities open liaison offices in New York
35 German universities and universities of applied science opened liaison offices in the German House in New York.
Organised in seven groups, the universities aim to provide information as well as instigation for new and extended partnerships and co-operation between German and American academic and scientific institutions as well as encourage American students to study in Germany.
The initiative meets with a current trend in the United States, as more and more American students express their interest to study abroad. Currently, Germany is only ranking seventh on the wish list of American students. However, the academic year of 2002/2003 saw a 15% increase in the numbers of US students studying in Germany.
