Dresden named „City of Science 2006“

Dresden has been named Germany’s „City of Science 2006“ – making it the second time it has won the accolade from the German Science Association.

At the final of the competition in Bremen, which holds the title for this year, the capital of Saxony managed to fight off competition from Magdeburg and Tübingen.

On announcing their decision, the jury highlighted Dresden’s varied and targeted concept, which was centred around the slogan „Where elements come together“ and which combined the city’s 800-year jubilee with the concept of science.

”We are delighted to have won the title,” said Dresden’s Lord Mayor Ingolf Rossberg. “Not only is it a mark of honour for the city’s network of educational, technical and economic establishments and companies, but it will also act as an impulse to help develop this further.”
