Germany and Japan intensify cooperation in the field of Life Science
Within the scope of the German Year in Japan 2005/6 the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) initiates cooperation with three Japanese knowledge clusters.
In the run-up to the German Year in Japan 2005/6 representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the International Office of the BMBF and the Management Office kompetenznetze.de were welcomed by three Japanese knowledge clusters in December 2004. The aim of the excursion was the initiation of new top level research between Germany and Japan in order to foster the development of application-oriented technology cooperation and new markets on the long run.
The journey of the delegation was part of a series of targeted activities to enforce the cooperation of Japanese clusters and German networks of competence.
The three clusters that have been visited mainly research in the fields of medicine, medical engineering, and biotechnology. The Toyama Medical-Bio Cluster particularly focuses on the field of Chinese medicine and the application of Cell/Enzyme/DNA Chips for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The Ishikawa High-Tech Sensing Cluster is primarily devoted to early stage dementia diagnosis and biosensor technology. The exploratory focus of the Kobe Translational Research Cluster lies on regenerative medicine and other medical technologies.
In December 2004 seven member networks of kompetenznetze.de received funds of the International Office (IB) to initiate cooperation with Japanese clusters. The funding of these activities will be continued in 2005.
