The DFG supports six new research groups

The German Research Foundation (DFG) is going to finance six new research groups over the next three years to the tune of around 8.7 million euros.

There will also be an opportunity for the new groups to have their funding extended for a further three years. DFG research groups are teams of outstanding scientists who are working together on innovative research projects and who are recognised internationally on account of their scientific quality and originality. Two of the projects being sponsored are in the field of mathematics, two in the field of soil technology, and a joint project between microbiologists and geologists, actually the only one of its kind in the world, on ‘Synaptic Inhibition’ at the University of Heidelberg. The methodological repertoire of the project group ranges from molecular genetics to protein biochemistry and electrophysiology.
