Natural Refrigeration Award
Students and graduates in the natural and technical sciences take note : eurammon is again posting the Natural Refrigeration Award for the best scientific thesis paper in the field of natural refrigerants. The European initiative for natural refrigerants is jointly sponsoring the 5,000 award with Swedens Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan) in Stockholm and ScanRef, the Scandinavian HVACR trade publication. In addition, eurammon invites the winners to present their paper to an international audience at an event hosted by the initiative .
The Natural Refrigeration Award is designed to encourage young scientists throughout Europe to work on sustainable solutions in refrigeration and air-conditioning, says Monika Witt, chairwoman of eurammon, the European initiative for natural refrigerants. Thanks to their environmental friendliness and cost effectiveness, natural refrigerants which include amongst others ammonia, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons are an excellent way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the battle against climate change.
Those eligible to compete for the Award are graduates of universities, polytechnics, colleges and similar educational institutions, whose scientific paper has been accredited as a doctoral, masters or bachelors thesis, or final paper for a similar degree. The thesis should centre on refrigeration technology using natural refrigerants e.g. ammonia, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, water or air and have been reviewed between January 2006 and June 2007. The deadline for applications is 15 June 2007. Materials to be included are an English abstract, the completed application form, and the thesis itself. An international panel of judges comprised of representatives from science, business and the media will select the winners. The awards will be presented in the autumn of 2007. eurammon first offered the Natural Refrigeration Award in 2005.
