The Region Rhine-Main-Neckar is the second largest industrial agglomeration within Germany and includes the areas Frankfurt/Rhine-Main and Rhine-Neckar. The industrial basis of the region is the chemical industry (Frankfurt, Ludwigshafen and Hanau) which is still the crucial economic factor. Out of this core competence a region with a high density of chemical related branches developed (plant engineering, pharma and nanomaterials). Additionally ITC (Darmstadt) and vehicle manufacturing play an important role in the regional industry. Apart from that, Frankfurt is the main financial center of Germany and its Airport is third biggest in Europe.
