Middle Germany

Middle Germany

Kassel - Erfurt - Halle - Leipzig - Dresden

The Region Middle Germany is characterised with many middle sized and few bigger cities; though there are no bigger agglomeration zones. The relative high population density and the long industrial history created many medium sized businesses which are organised decentralised. Due to this organisation similar branches accumulate in various cities. Semi-conductor industry is concentrated in Dresden, optical and medical technology in Jena and Goettingen, mechanical engineering in Chemnitz and automotive industry in Kassel, Eisenach and Zwickau. Food related industries have an important role in the Thuringian Basin and in parts of Saxony. Furthermore the touristic sector is growing slowly but permanent.
