Many important cities, including Hamburg and Bremen, are positioned along crucial waterways or directly along the coast. In contrast to this well populated region, the southern part’s population density is lower and the economic basis different. Whereas the cities, connected to the sea have a strong maritime and touristic background, the area in the south part is mainly based on agriculture and food related industry. Another economic focus is wind-power that brought a lot technological and innovative power to the region; beginning with the development of wind-turbines till the final production of electricity.
