Theo-Prax-Center

TheoPrax is an educational network which has been active since 1996 with the declared objective of uniting theory and practice. For this purpose, the TheoPrax© teaching and learning method has been developed. Through the integration of project work in the regular curricula of schools and universities, business and education are interlocked in a supply and order relation. Projects in which pupils and students are given concrete tasks by the industrial and the services sector acquaint them with the working world under real-life conditions.
Essential objectives of the educational network are:

  • to complement upfront teaching with equivalent project work
  • to strengthen the competencies of all involved players
  • to mediate skills for contextual thinking and acting
  • to raise interest in technical and scientific issues
  • to effect cooperation between schools or universities and companies

The partners of the TheoPrax network are: 30 major enterprises; more than 30 SMEs; more than 50 professors from regular universities, universities of applied sciences and research institutions; more than 60 schools of secondary and vocational education; 15 associations and societies; and numerous municipalities.
Besides the TheoPrax centre, located at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) in Pfinztal, another 11 communication centres in 11 German federal states have been established to offer regional support to involved enterprises and educational and research institutions.
