Race for Crystal Cabin Award 2011 hots up

Submission deadline extended for innovation prize for aircraft cabins

Many applications from various countries have already reached the Crystal Cabin Award e.V. offices in Hamburg. But the association has also been made aware of many other innovations to make flying more comfortable, reduce costs and/or protect the environment. For some of them, however, the decision still has to be made as to whether the idea, concept or product can be presented to the public yet. In response to requests from these applications, the association has extended the deadline for the submission of applications by one week. This is the fifth time the competition for innovation in the field of aircraft cabins has been held, in association with the Aircraft Interiors Expo. Applications may now be submitted in the six different categories until and including Monday, 22 November, 2010. Details: www.crystal-cabin-award.com.

The trophies have firmly established themselves as an international quality seal and marketing tool within the industry. This year’s victory in the "Greener Cabin, Health and Safety" category, for example, brought with it an enormous overnight jump in brand awareness for the Canadian company Norduyn, according to Patrick Philipps, Norduyn’s Head of Business Development.

Esther Gläsker from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover has also benefited from winning in the new "University" Category. "For me personally, winning the Crystal Cabin Award 2010 has enabled me to get to know interesting people from the industry. The extremely positive feedback has really motivated me and helped me to keep believing in the enormous innovative potential of my idea. This type of support is especially important for young students, helping them to make waves and push their ideas in this very specialist industry."

But this support would not be possible without the sponsors. So far, the Crystal Cabin Award 2011 is being sponsored by Airbus, the Aircraft Interiors Expo (Reed Exhibitions), Aircraft Interiors International Magazine, ASSYSTEM Germany Aerospace GmbH, Bishop GmbH, DIEHL Aerosystems Holding GmbH, FERCHAU AVIATION Division, HTG Media Hamburg and Jetliner Cabins.

About the Crystal Cabin Award

The Crystal Cabin Award is the only international prize for innovations in the field of aircraft cabins. A high-calibre jury made up of renowned academics, engineers, specialist journalists and airline and aircraft manufacturer representatives comes together under the slogan “Let your ideas take off” to honour unusual cabin concepts and products. The competition was launched by the Aviation Cluster Hamburg Metropolitan Region and is organised by the Crystal Cabin Award e.V. association.
The award, to date the only one of its kind, has been presented as part of the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg every year since 2007. The trophies have become a seal of quality, known and coveted around the world.
