IVAM publishes guide on microsystems standardization

Does standardization determine commercial success or put a stop to innovation? - The pros and cons of MEMS standardization have been discussed for years. The diversity of opinions and the complexity of the technologies involved make it difficult to develop and pursue a standardization strategy to the benefit of the microsystems industry in Germany as well as individual companies.

During the project "NOSTA” (standards for microsystems technology), which was funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), IVAM has explored the experiences and problems of the players in Germany in dealing with standardization issues. The aim of the project was to describe the present state of things and to recommend measures that meet the needs of the industry.

The findings from numerous interviews, a nationwide industry survey and discussions have been compiled in a guide on microsystems technology standardization. The guide includes basic information about technology standardization in Germany, field reports, and recommendations for action to be taken by entrepreneurs and scientists, standardization organizations, political bodies and industry associations.

The guide “Normen und Standards für die Mikrosystemtechnik” has been published in German. It is available in print (postage payable) or as a free PDF file.
