MODTRAIN/MODLINK – The future of the European railway-systems

The European project Modular Train (MODTRAIN) is a milestone on its way of competition in the future of European railway-systems. Within MODLINK from 2004 to the beginning of 2008 Europe-wide standardized technical results for human-machine-interface in the unitised future train will be developed, realised and tested.

The heading section of the train with the workplace for the driver as well as door modules and the information system for passengers and train staff are some of those tested sections. Furthermore within MODLINK standardized systems for data communication between trains will be developed and tested.

In cooperation with Bombardier Transportations in Henningsdorf, the FAV Berlin is managing the project MODLINK, which is the biggest of the four MODTRAIN subprojects. With this project, the region of Berlin-Brandenburg qualifies itself as one of the most important locations for future-oriented solutions of railway technology.

Having its centre in Berlin, MODLINK reflects the international cooperation, which is also effective for the complete integrated program. The important operation companies, all European system vendors, subsystems and component suppliers, research institutes as well as associations work together for unitised and standardized solutions. These solutions shall contribute to upgrade the competitiveness between the ecologically friendly railway and the competing common carriers.
