LUMOS – Air-based Monitoring System

A consortium of the Berlin KMU IQ Wireless, BLIC, Scandat and Teltec as well as the German Aerospace Centre and the Fhg institute FIRST responsible for research, has developed a new system for optical data entry of transportation and its processing in real-time including the supply of users with information.

This system combines commercialised elements as infrared sensors and stabilised platforms with absolute new software tools and thereby allows advanced short- and medium-term forecasts of traffic situations.

LUMOS is suitable as supplement for existing acquisition technique, especially in situations where traffic quantity increases, for example while vacation times or big events.

Concerning integrated traffic management, LUMOS is able to deliver more effective solutions to upgrade the data situation. The project LUMOS was part of the “centre-of-growth-project” (Wachstumskernprojekt) from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research from 2001 to 2003 and is important for the construction of the Anwendungszentrum Verkehrstelematik (AZVT).

Head of the project LUMOS was IQ Wireless, while the FAV as innovation manager AZVT undertake the strategy, prearrangement and implementation of the project.
