New Laser Source with Revolutionary Beam Properties

The thin disk laser developed at the Institute for High Power Beam Tools, University of Stuttgart, represents a pioneering new concept for diode-pumped solid-state lasers. Its laser radiation is both highly effective and focusable. Laser output power is almost freely scalable. A thin crystal disk (see fig.), cooled over its surface from one side and pumped from the other side with diode lasers, is used as the laser-active medium. Initial series products are now available in small outputs for marking as well as in the kW range for materials processing (e.g. Jenoptik L.O.S., TRUMPF Laser).
