Power lighting from LEDs
30% more output the new OSTAR Lighting high-power LED in its standard version with a lens can significantly increase light yield. The LED is fitted with either four or six series-connected chips, and now comes in a hexagonal configuration that permits a high packaging density. Yielding 420 lumen at an operating current of 700 mA in the six-chip version with a lens, it is brighter than a 20-watt low-voltage halogen lamp. LEDs that can provide enough light for a desk lamp are thus gaining a foothold in more and more everyday lighting applications.
The white high-power light source is now available in two alternative versions with four chips or with six. The new hexagonal shape enables multiple LEDs to be linked together into more powerful light packages with no loss of space. The standard variant includes a specially developed hemispherical lens that increases the efficiency of the light yield without affecting the beam properties. Basic versions without lenses are available for customer-specific optics.
The six-chip versions of these high-output LEDs produce 420 lumen with a lens and 300 lumen without a lens, at an operating current of 700 mA and an output of 15 W in each case. In the four-chip configuration, the LEDs produce 280 lumen with a lens and 200 lumen without a lens, at an operating current of 700 mA and an output of 10 W. The OSTARs high luminosity can be attributed to its tried and tested thin-film technology, which ensures that nearly all the internally generated light is emitted at the top. Color conversion based on the chip-coating method produces consistently white light from all viewing angles. The yellow converter is mounted directly on the blue chip.
The high luminous intensity of the new OSTAR Lighting LED makes it suitable for a wide range of everyday lighting applications including individual workplace lighting, reading lamps and vehicle interiors. Even using it as a rapidly flashing light for special effects and in stroboscopes has no effect on the length of its service life. Versatile configurations with high luminous intensity have earned these LEDs a place in numerous applications that have previously been open only to conventional light sources.
