Göttingen is home to numerous well-known metrology companies. The high density of such companies in the region is unique worldwide and has its roots in the historical connection between the university and research institutes.
Since the times of Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855), metrological companies have been founded in the immediate vicinity of the Georg-August-University.
