Remstal route planner: GIS visualization for regional tourism applications
VDC Fellbach has sponsored a project in which four companies in partnership have developed a digital route planner that displays route information based on GIS data and provides other visualization functions for use in the leisure, tourist and business sectors.
GPS-Routenplaner
The solution, which can be implemented on a variety of platforms, enables information from different sources aerial photos, map data for different types of route, elevation charts and other types of text and image information of interest to tourists to be merged and displayed together.
Detailed maps on different scales and a virtual 3D flight along the planned route provide an optimum means of enabling users to prepare for their journey. The planned route can also be downloaded to a pocket computer in the form of a digital navigation system.
