Die Wertschöpfungskette der Geoinformationstechnologie umfasst die Erzeugung, Verarbeitung und Verwertung von Daten über Zustände und Vorgänge unter, auf und über der Erdoberfläche. Bedeutende Akteure der Geoinformationsbranche in der Hauptstadtregion Berlin-Brandenburg sind seit 2005 in dem Kompetenznetzwerk GEOkomm networks zusammengeschlossen. Engagiert sind namhafte Forschungseinrichtungen und KMU, die ihre herausragenden Kompetenzen und innovativen Potenziale im Netzwerk zusammenführen, um mit neuen Produkten, Dienstleistungen und Know-how auch auf internationalen Märkten zu agieren.
Gemeinsam mit den wissenschaftlichen Partnern, Großforschungseinrichtungen, Universitäten, Fachhochschulen und privaten Instituten werden neueste Erkenntnisse aus der Forschung in wirtschaftliche Anwendungen und Geschäftsprozesse im Netzwerk überführt. Das Spektrum reicht dabei z. B. vom Satellitenbild über kartenbasierte Verkehrs- oder Umweltinformation bis zur Standortanalyse für Immobilieninvestitionen. Dazu gehören u. a. folgende Projekte:
- GeoMonitor: Aufbau, Integration und Betrieb von internationalisierten Standortinformationssystemen, die webbasiert vielfältige, auch interaktive Angebote zu Städten, Regionen oder Themen bereithalten
- Georisiken / Riskmanagement: Entwicklung leistungsfähiger Frühwarnsysteme wie das Tsunami Early Warning System im Südpazifik oder Hochwasserschutz- und -prognosesysteme
- 3D-Stadtmodelle: Virtuelle 3D-Stadtmodellierung auf Basis hochauflösender Luftbilder, mit denen z. B. Solardachkataster aufgebaut werden können, die Gebäudeeigentümern ihr jeweiliges Solarstrompotenzial aufzeigen
- Carbon Credits: Monitoring von Forst- und Waldflächen unter Zuhilfenahme multisensoraler Fernerkundung – Reduktion der Emission von Treibhausgasen und deren Überwachung
- PROGRESS – Georisiken im Globalen Wandel: Potsdamer Forschungs- und Technologieverbund zu Naturgefahren, Klimawandel und Nachhaltigkeit
- EnMAP: Das Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program – eine zukunftsweisende, hyperspektrale Satellitenmission.
Die Hauptstadtregion Berlin-Brandenburg zeichnet sich durch ein besonders leistungsfähiges Forschungsumfeld im Bereich der Geoinformation aus. Nirgendwo in Deutschland gibt es konzentriert so viele Fakultäten, Lehrstühle und Forschungseinrichtungen, aber auch Klein- und mittelständische Unternehmen, die in diesem Technologiefeld dynamisch arbeiten. Die so entstandenen engen Kooperationsbeziehungen zwischen Forschung und Industrie und die große Anzahl verfügbarer Fachkräfte bieten einmalige Rahmenbedingungen für innovative Bestleistungen. Im Netzwerk wird es möglich, vorhandene Kernkompetenzen zu verstärken, durch Arbeitsteilung Kosten einzusparen um neue Geschäftsmodelle und innovative Lösungen zu realisieren.
GEOkomm networks adressiert zielgerichtet den internationalen Markt und nutzt dabei bereits vorhandene Kontakte und Kooperationsbeziehungen u. a. nach Russland, Indien, China, in die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate sowie zu Netzwerken innerhalb der Europäischen Union.
Im Zusammenhang mit der Technologieentwicklung, der Internationalisierung und Spezialisierung der Branche ist der Bedarf an der aktuellen Vermittlung von anwenderorientiertem Wissen stark gestiegen – und er wird weiter steigen. Das Netzwerk hat diese Entwicklung frühzeitig erkannt und die Einrichtung GEOkomm academy auf den Weg gebracht.
The value chain of geographical information technologies covers the creation, processing and use of data related to conditions and events beneath, on or above the surface of the earth. Prominent representatives of the geographical IT branch in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital area have been united since 2005 in the GEOkomm networks knowledge network. Renowned research institutes and small and medium-sized enterprises, developing their knowledge and their innovative potential within the network, are determined to act in international markets with new products, services and their know-how.
In cooperation with partners from the scientific community, major national research institutes, universities and private institutes, the most recent research results are used in commercial applications and applied in business processes within the network. The spectrum varies from such topics as satellite imagery, map-based environmental data and transport information to the analysis of locations for real estate investment. Some project examples:
- GeoMonitor: development, implementation and operation of an international web-based location system offering interactive services concerning cities, regions or specific topics
- Geo-risks / risk management: development of alert systems such as the Tsunami Early Warning System used in the south Pacific, or flood protection and forecast systems
- 3D city modelling: 3D virtual city models, based on high resolution aerial imagery, with the help of which it is possible, for instance, to define solar panel construction areas for landowners to optimise their solar energy potential
- Carbon credits: monitoring of forest and jungle surfaces with the help of remote multi-sensor technologies - observation and reduction of greenhouse gas emission
- PROGRESS – environmental change and geo-risks: research and technology centre in Potsdam for natural risks, climate change and sustainability
- EnMAP: the Environmental Mapping and Analysis Programme - a forward-looking hyper-spectral satellite mission.
Germany's capital region is particularly capable in the field of geoinformation due to its large and renowned research sector. In no other part of Germany are so many specialised faculties, research institutes and small and medium-sized enterprises concentrated in one place, working dynamically in this field of technology and contributing to technological advances. The resulting relationships, characterised by close cooperation between industry and research, and the large number of professionals create a unique environment for innovative excellence. The network makes it possible to strengthen already existent core competencies, reduce costs through division of labour and put new business models and innovative solutions into effect.
GEOkomm networks targets international markets, taking advantage of its already existent contacts and cooperation relationships with countries such as Russia, India, China and the United Arab Emirates as well as European networks.
In light of the technological advances, the internationalisation and the specialisation taking place in this sector, the need for up-to-date mediation of operational knowledge and skills has grown significantly and will go on growing in the future. GEOkomm recognised this trend very early on and has created the GEOkomm academy in response to it.
