Cubic boron nitride (cBN)
The coating material cBN has great potential for wear reduction, especially for cutting tools but also for glass products. For a long time it was not possible to produce cBN layers of the necessary thickness (> 2µm) on an industrial scale.
However, in recent years the association has been able to achieve world leadership in the in the field of cBN deposition through a variety of projects. cBN coating systems in a usable thickness with a significant proportion of cBN have been applied to tools. The mechanical characteristics of the coating system confirmed its potential in such applications and are comparable with bulk material.
The first successful trials with cBN coated reversible cutters demonstrated that the material posseses the necessary adhesion and long term stability for use with cutting tools.
