Automated dry filter system with extremely high separation efficiency

As stipulated by Germany's Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft), emissions containing chromate must be restricted to values below 0.05 mg/m³. This is not economically feasible using conventional filter pads and wet washing techniques.

In view of the situation, I-KON developed a self-cleaning dry filter system based on Teflon membranes, for which it submitted a patent application. The high cleaning efficiency achieved by the system results in filtered process air that contains fewer particles than the supply air drawn in from the atmosphere. This means that the process air can be circulated in a closed circuit. In addition, it is necessary to condition the process air (i.e. regulate its temperature and humidity) in order to achieve high-quality paint coatings. The dimensioning of the air-conditioning system can be reduced by 90% using the closed-circuit method, leading to significant savings in energy and water.
