The world's first fully automated paint facility for aircraft exteriors
The first construction stage was completed in 2003, and the second in 2005 as planned. The following gives a rough outline of the project: In the first construction stage, the painting and drying processes were automated. This helped to achieve an overall level of automation of about 30%.
In the second construction stage, processes that were previously carried out on production islands, such as the placing of seal welds, cutting, grinding and masking, were incorporated in the automated production line.
The result was the world's first almost fully automated paint facility for wing flaps in the aircraft industry.
