As a cross-border network, BalticNet-PlasmaTec aims to support the creation of new jobs in the long term by introducing and disseminating the low-temperature plasma technology in the industry of the Baltic Sea states. The main means to this end include opening up new business fields, fostering company spin-offs, and intense joint marketing.

The main activities of the network include:

• Paving the way for and managing development projects and cooperation

• Acquiring funds and organising (EU) projects

• Organising collaboration projects

• Exchanging teachers, students, and employees

• Holding presentations at fairs and representing the network

• Utilisation of low-temperature plasmas in the medical and biotechnological fields

• Current project focus: surface modification to increase biocompatibility and for sterilisation/disinfection purposes

2. PlasmaplusUmwelt

• Plasma applications in environmental technology

• Current projects: plasma filters for industrial emissions (paint shops, polymer concrete manufacture) and diesel engines for boats

3. Vacuum technology / surface modification

• Alteration of material surfaces by coating and molecular modifications

• Project themes are: low-pressure plasma applications for generating special metallic layers

4. International education and continuing education

• Improving and developing personnel resources

• Organising the summer school 2008

• Joint seminars and exchange of personnel

5. Marketing working group

• Coordinated external presentation of the network

• Project themes are: organisation of events and fairs, websites and public relations

Apart from the regular workshops, subject-specific meetings of the working groups are held.

Waste gas purification with plasma filters:
Procedures for purifying waste gas based on low-temperature plasmas are being tested worldwide. In parts, their success is quite remarkable; however, up to now, a universal solution for all applications could not be found. Currently, several pilot tests are being conducted in this field initiated and coordinated by the network.
Introduction of the modern vacuum and plasma technologies in the production of tools for working on wood or materials similar to wood to fill the requirements of the furniture and wood industry.
