Sunny Island battery inverter
An important innovation developed in the context of the competence network is the AC coupling, the technology used to set up and run (hybrid) island grids. AC coupling connects all the generators and consumers on a shared AC bus. Compared with the conventional DC coupling principle, the chief advantage of AC coupling is its modular, flexible facility for expanding the island grid.

This makes it easy to respond to increasing power consumption and to integrate additional (renewable) energy sources without a major engineering effort. In addition, AC-coupled island systems are more reliable and more flexible. Thanks especially to simple planning, the use of standard installation components and the efficient use of connected energy sources, the use of AC coupling helps reduce power supply costs. The technical prerequisites for implementing such a system include the innovative power electronics and control concepts implemented in the Sunny Island battery inverter.
