Hybrid system for rural electrification
Island systems are distributed systems used to provide electrical power where a connection to the public utility is technically not possible or not viable from an economic standpoint. Hybrid island systems are power supply systems that combine various energy sources such as wind power, photovoltaic, hydroelectric or internal-combustion engines. The battery inverter is a key component in any such hybrid network. Another important innovation is the Aero-Smart, a robust, cost-effective low-power wind turbine system developed specifically for use in hybrid island grids.
Cost-effective, future-proof power supply technology is available thanks to these (for the most part) jointly developed components and the associated engineering know-how. This technology is ideally suited to countries with limited power grids or regions with no centralized grids whatsoever. Its use sustainably improves living conditions and helps stabilize the social situation (preventing rural depopulation) in developing countries as well as helping people to help themselves. In view of global developments affecting resource availability, climate issues and population growth, the market for hybrid island systems boasts enormous potential.
